And the winners are…
1. Jakob De Boer
The winner of this week’s Web Top 5 is the website of photographer, Jakob De Boer. It’s usage of strong hero images, taken from De Boer’s incredible black and white photography gives real life to the site, but it is the unique functionality throughout that makes it stand out. Subtle movements on the gallery page bring new imagery into focus and give a sense of individuality to De Boer’s work.
2. Owloptics
The second site in this week’s Web Top 5 is a very edgy choice, with an opening piece of video that could be considered a little disconcerting. The intense opening gambit certainly succeeds in placing the product firmly in the consciousness of the user. This very different approach to marketing gives the website bags of style and individuality.
3. Mah Ze Dahr Bakery
The third site on the list is the Mah Ze Dahr Bakery website, which can’t help but make its users extremely hungry. The website works well in that it really foregrounds the remarkably colourful bakery products. We’re just disappointed that they don’t ship to the UK.
4. Schmidhuber
The Schmidhuber site is a bold, yet elegant site, stacked with great content, making it a worthy contender on this week’s list. A nice navigation and an extremely legible appearance ensure that the site will be memorable even after a visitor has left, and its usage of some strong hero imagery are in keeping with its bold persona. We really like this site.
5. Uncube
The fifth and final site on the list is the Uncube site, which again is a site very dependent upon its strong imagery. With colourful and original imagery forming much of the background for the site’s great content, which includes some innovative usage of video content. The perfect site to round off this week’s Web Top 5.
