Every Monday, the StrategiQ Team make their picks as to their top 5 favourite websites of the week.
And the winners are…
1. Direnduvar
The winner of this week’s Web Top 5 receives the award on the basis of a extraordinary display of innovation. Responding to protests in Gezi Park in Turkey, direnduvar was one of the hashtags used in connection with the social movement. The site is impressive in its enormity and by its nature, will continue to grow as users freely add their writings and drawings to the wall. The content is certainly not of a high quality, with many of the additions by users created in a fairly haphazard manner, but it remains captivating as users delve deeper into the site. Direnduvar is magnificent is building a website with real character in response to a very serious real life event.
2. Puma Mobium
It wouldn’t be a Web Top 5 without at least one parallax scrolling website, and this week’s number two is one of our favourites. Following a runner through a photoshoot, Puma Mobium adds content to the users journey as the control the runner with the parallax function. Accompanying the Parallax with sound throughout is a real sign of a skilled web developer and the function will no doubt entertain bored web browsers for some time. We really like this site.
3. Armani
In our investigations, we have often found that the brands we expected to have immediately impressive websites were somewhat underwhelming. This, however, is not the case with the Armani brand, which is an aesthetically pleasing reflection of the brand’s class. We have spoken endlessly of aspirational brands and their efforts to reflect their nature, but one cannot escape Armani’s remarkable skill in doing so. The site benefits from its glorious selection of photography and really foregrounds these images to produce an excellent reflection of the brand.
4. Destiny
Number four is a very topical site this week, being the site accompanying the launch of video game, Destiny. In the video game community, there has been some considerable excitement surrounding the launch of the title and developers Bungie have reflected this with an ever evolving website. Heavy use of video has foregrounded the main strengths of the subject matter, whilst frequent updates of the homepage every day has helped to maintain the excitement surrounding the title’s release.
5. Skoda Octavia France
Number five in the Web Top 5 is another impressive Parallax scroller. Skoda Octavia’s french website makes great use of its range of imagery, choosing an imaginative way to present them and vary the way we engage with the car. The configurator is not the most innovative we have seen, but it adds something to a site that is an excellent time waster.
