Every Monday, the StrategiQ Team make their picks as to their top 5 favourite websites of the week.
And the winners are…
1. IFTTT
In terms of both design and functionality, IFTTT is the clear winner of this week’s Web Top 5. A simple interface, characterised by white space and sporadic yet hugely colourful imagery, the website is typical of simplistic, yet modern web design. A tool designed with a social focus, IFTTT creates “recipes” to allow useful integration of a number of social platforms, allowing some extremely clever functionality. The IFTTT is a very worthy winner of this week’s Web Top 5.
2. Smashing Magazine
Nice design, a beautiful blog page and a really helpful resource, the Smashing Magazine website is exactly what the Web Top 5 is about. In terms of design, the website does a superb job of providing a plethora of information without the page becoming over saturated with text. As a resource, the site is excellent, with a wealth of knowledge being imparted in useful, digestible manner.
3. Urban Barn
An excellent blend of classical and modern in this website that takes aspects of retro and combines with something far more on trend. Another excellent use of white space and hero imagery, Urban Barn is simplistic, yet highly effective in presenting a very high end brand identity. Its Room Planner feature is also an enjoyable addition to the website and one which adds an aspect of fun to an overall excellent site.
4. La Carambole
This site perfectly captures its subject matter through a sparing and subtle use of colour and some wonderful photography that acts as a real attack on the senses, tempting our hunger with ease. It’s uncluttered appearance is perfectly complemented by a wonderfully elegant font, that adds a real prestige to the site and to the brand. Any other week, this site would be far higher.
5. LEGO
A fairly simple, side scrolling website, the LEGO site will no doubt claim a small part of all of our hearts, if only for the memories. Introducing a raft of colourful characters from all of LEGO’s strong brands, the website acts to perfectly tie together all aspects of the LEGO behemoth. Its interactive nature carefully adheres to the values of the product.
