“I’m attracted to jobs that are incredibly busy and full-on and involve a lot of interaction. It’s probably why my youthful plans of being a history writer turned out not to be for me! With a degree in English Literature and masters in History, I’d even considered becoming a history professor, but clearly I’m hard-wired for a more rapid pace!
The biggest stress of project management is also the thing I love about it, being pulled in a million different directions. I find spinning multiple plates at once thrilling! Maybe that makes me a bit of an adrenaline junkie? I had decided that I wasn’t going to work in an agency again! Then an ex-colleague, Tyler contacted me about joining him at StrategiQ as Head of Project Management. I met the team and the rest is history!
It’s all about people for me. The people and energy here are amazing. It’s rare to find the same kind of openness to change and drive you find in a start-up, in an agency that’s as well established as StrategiQ, but 11 years into doing business and that energy still pulses through this agency! Working with clients and getting to know them and their businesses really well is central to the work I do. Building relationships and trust enables us to partner effectively and do our best work. It also gives us licence to suggest things that can enhance the project and add value to the client.
StrategiQ has an amazingly talented Dev team who consistently deliver award-winning websites. In the midst of a busy, loud, creative agency, they are the quiet bunch that get on and make it happen. We operate in an environment where cool and creative stuff is happening all the time and is readily on show. Part of my role is to translate the equally cool, but seemingly more complex stuff that the Dev team do, to make it accessible to the rest of the agency and our clients. Having a background in development probably helps me to articulate that.
We have at least 40 development projects and retainers active in the business at any one time and that’s set to grow, along with the team this year. There are a number of projects I’m really excited about going on at the moment (including some headless CMS ones) with some great clients who really understand the importance of the website as being foundational to everything they’re doing. The team really thrive in solving complex problems and love having the scope to do more. I’ve no doubt that with the pedigree of projects we’ve delivered to date, that we’ll be attracting clients with the appetite to deliver increasingly ambitious projects.
I love working with the team here at StrategiQ and really enjoy watching talent develop and grow. I’ve seen some fantastic examples of that in my first six months, Grace especially. I’m really happy that project management is becoming more central to production across the board. I love being part of facilitating technological transformation. There are some great tools out there that can really enhance quality and productivity, integrating those into a businesses existing platform and processes is really rewarding and something I’m looking forward to working on in 2025.”
