Cultivating Creative Culture – Nick Wells’s 6 Month Impact

“The Marketing Manager role is really a central hub of everything at StrategiQ. Connected to both the client and all the service lines, we work at pace to ensure that everything is happening as it should. I’ve adopted a conduit approach, which enables me to ensure that all the right conversations are happening and the right work is being done in a methodical way.

I came from a much smaller agency in terms of headcount and service lines that specialised in music industry brand alignment. I was involved across the board from selling to delivering. We were one team, serving a niche market. I was comfortable and in control. Before joining, I imagined that StrategiQ would be very fast-paced, technical and ‘high expert’ and it not only lived up to that expectation, but surpassed it. These guys don’t just talk a good game, they really deliver. 

I’ve had to learn new industries, new service lines and working with B2B clients instead of my consumer brand roots. I’m now in the midst of a team, rather than leading it, considering the opinions and leadership of others rather than making the decisions. It’s a whole new ball game! 

Charlie (the Director I work with) has been brilliant, I’ve really appreciated how accommodating and understanding he’s been. I’ve found the culture really interesting with its commitment to transparency and appreciation of the psychology behind our personalities. Having been a student of psychology, I’ve long been aware of communication styles, personality and behaviour traits, but never seen them so proactively referenced in a working environment. StrategiQ really put them into practice which has made me much more mindful, and helps me to remember a lot of the time, ‘we’re just an extra in someone else’s movie’.

Whilst I’ve been really happy with what we’ve been able to achieve for clients, and in one particular instance that’s included extending our remit to a parent company. I’m most happy with feeling like I’ve made a contribution to the evolution of StrategiQ. We’re becoming more ‘consciously creative’ culturally and personally that’s something I’m proud to have played a part in. I love to be part of unlocking creativity, opening people up and hearing their creative voice. We were always brilliant at technical performance-based marketing, but now there’s a real buzz around advertising campaigns too and I’m here for it! I’m really excited to push the limits and see where we can take the creativity in this agency in 2025.”
